Sussex Flying club can offer initial and recurrent ground and flight training for FAA Flight Crew Licences and Ratings.

FAA Training at Sussex Flying Club

“All training is carried out at Shoreham with our in-house, dual qualified (JAA & FAA) instructor.”

 

The following FAA training is available:

FAA BFR
The Biennial Flight Review must be completed by all FAA licence holders every 24 months. The training consists of a minimum of 1 hour ground training & 1 hour of flight training.

 

FAA IPC
The Instrument Proficiency Check is for FAA Instrument Rating holders who do not meet the minimum experience requirements as defined in 14CFR Part 61.57 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. Please note these requirements changed in October 2009.

 

FAA PPL
The Private Pilots Licence.

To be eligible for the issue of a FAA PPL you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be able to speak and understand the English Language
  • Hold a current FAA Class 3 Medical Certificate
  • Pass the FAA Written Examination
  • Pass an Oral and Flight Test with an FAA Authorized Examiner

The PPL requires a minimum of 40 hours flying which must include a minimum of:

  • 20 Hours of Flight Instruction
  • 10 Hours of Solo Flight Time

 

FAA IR
To be eligible for the issue of a FAA Instrument Rating you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold at least an FAA PPL
  • Hold a current FAA Class 3 Medical Certificate
  • Pass the FAA Written Examination
  • Pass an Oral and Flight Test with an FAA Authorized Examiner
  • Have logged at least 50 hours as Pilot in Command on Cross Country Flights (+50nm from base)

Training consists of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time to include:

15 hr. of instrument flight training from a CFII (CFII is an instructor who is authorized to give instrument instruction)

Cross-country flight procedures that include at least one cross-country flight in an airplane that is performed under IFR and consists of:

  1. A distance of at least 250 NM along airways or ATC-directed routing
  2. An instrument approach at each airport
  3. Three different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems

 

FAA CPL
The Commercial Pilots Licence. Full details of current requirements available upon request.

 

Training can also be provided for conversion from JAA PPL to FAA PPL.
